เราอาจมอง จำนวนตรงข้าม เหมือนภาพสะท้อนในกระจก โดยมี ศูนย์ (0) เป็นกระจกเงา ถ้าเราเดินไปทางขวา 3 ก้าว จำนวนตรงข้ามคือการเดินไปทางซ้าย 3 ก้าวนั่นเอง

We can think of opposite numbers as reflections in a mirror, where zero (0) is the mirror. If you walk 3 steps to the right, the opposite is walking 3 steps to the left.

ถ้า a แทนจำนวนเต็มใดๆ จำนวนตรงข้ามของ a เขียนแทนด้วย -a

If a is any integer, the opposite of a is written as -a.

A negative sign outside parentheses like -(-5) means "the opposite of -5", which is 5 (double negative makes a positive).
